IPOH – FUKUOKA, JEPUN

  • Since 1988, Ipoh City Council has established a close relationship with Fukuoka City, Japan by holding various programmes such as cultural, sports, visits and others.
  • On 21 March 1989, Y. Bhg. Dato' Haji Umar bin Haji Abu, the first Ipoh City Mayor with En. Toiichi Kuwahara, Fukuoka City Mayor, had signed an accord on the Twin Cities Ipoh – Fukuoka, Japan programme. Ipoh – Fukuoka, Japan. The ceremony was witnessed by the then Perak Menteri Besar, Y.A.B Dato' Seri Haji Ramli bin Ngah Talib and the Fukuoka City Chairman, En. Hirotaro Yamasaki. The ceremony was held at the 10th Floor, Azlan Shah Hall, Ipoh City Council.
  • The aim of having this relationship is to strengthen and develop the cooperation between the two cities in order to promote the understanding between the people of Malaysia and Japan. The relationship is in the forms of cooperation in the areas of economy, commerce, science and technology, culture, sports, education and others.
  • The followings were the various programmes which had been run and implemented such as the Asia Pacific Children Convention (APCC), Ipoh – Fukuoka Students Exchange, JICA Cooperation Programme, Ipoh – Fukuoka Youth Exchange, Official Visits and others.
  • Ipoh – Fukuoka Students Exchange Programme and the Asia Pacific Children Convention (APCC) are programmes carried out annually. Both programmes are the cooperative programmes between Ipoh City Council and Negeri Perak Education Department and Fukuoka City Japan.
  • In 2009, the close relationship between the two cities celebrated its 20th year. Both cities had discussed and agreed to celebrate the Twin Cities 20th Anniversary. Amongst the programmes arranged by Ipoh City Council were, the Official Delegation Visit of Fukuoka, Japan Ipoh City on 1 October 2009 – 3 October 2009 and the Science, Technology & Aerospace Exhibition at Stadium Indera Mulia, Ipoh
  • The Robotic Show was especially brought in from Fukuoka City to take part in the exhibition. It was very warmly received by the students and residents of Ipoh City.
