- Is a government-funded residential school. This school is named after the first Seri Paduka Baginda Yang DiPertuan Agong Malaysia, Almarhum Seri Paduka Baginda Tuangku Abdul Rahman ibni Almarhum Tuangku Muhammad.
- This school was established on 14 January 1957, at an army camp base at Baeza Avenue (now known as Jalan Hospital), and was originally called Sekolah Menengah Melayu.
- On 2 January1958, the school was relocated to the current site (known previously as Tiger Lane) on a 46-acre land. On 14 May 1958, this school was renamed "Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman" (STAR).
- The main aim of the establishment of this school by the Malaysian Government at that time was to improve the education status of the Malays in Malaya.
- Sekolah Menengah Agama Izzuddin Shah, Ipoh
- This is the first Secondary Religious Residential School under the management of Negeri Perak Darul Ridzuan State Government and Perak Religious Department
- It was established in 1959 and was officially opened by Almarhum Sultan Yusuf Izzuddin Shah
- Located at Jalan Harimau, which is now renamed to Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah on a land of 7.29 hectare

- This school was established in 1930 and was known as " Government Trade School"
- Its aim was to train the youth in the mechanical area to supply the workforce in the Federated Malay State Railway Central Workshop.
- In 1950 the school's name was changed to " Junior Technical Trade School". On 1 January 1963 " Junior Technical Trade School" was upgraded to " Secondary Trade School"
