Residential Schools

  1. Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman (STAR)
    • Is a government-funded residential school. This school is named after the first Seri Paduka Baginda Yang DiPertuan Agong Malaysia, Almarhum Seri Paduka Baginda Tuangku Abdul Rahman ibni Almarhum Tuangku Muhammad.
    • This school was established on 14 January 1957, at an army camp base at Baeza Avenue (now known as Jalan Hospital), and was originally called Sekolah Menengah Melayu.
    • On 2 January1958, the school was relocated to the current site (known previously as Tiger Lane) on a 46-acre land. On 14 May 1958, this school was renamed "Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman" (STAR).
    • The main aim of the establishment of this school by the Malaysian Government at that time was to improve the education status of the Malays in Malaya.
  2. Sekolah Menengah Agama Izzuddin Shah, Ipoh
    • This is the first Secondary Religious Residential School under the management of Negeri Perak Darul Ridzuan State Government and Perak Religious Department
    • It was established in 1959 and was officially opened by Almarhum Sultan Yusuf Izzuddin Shah
    • Located at Jalan Harimau, which is now renamed to Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah on a land of 7.29 hectare

Technical/Vocational Secondary Schools

  1. Sekolah Menengah Teknik Lebuh Cator
    • This school was established in 1930 and was known as " Government Trade School"
    • Its aim was to train the youth in the mechanical area to supply the workforce in the Federated Malay State Railway Central Workshop.
    • In 1950 the school's name was changed to " Junior Technical Trade School". On 1 January 1963 " Junior Technical Trade School" was upgraded to " Secondary Trade School"
    • Since 1997 the school is now known as Sekolah Menengah Teknik Lebuh Cator
  2. Sekolah Menengah Teknik Ipoh Persiaran Brash
    • Located at Persiaran Brash
    • This school was established in the early 1970's to train future engineers
    • The main objective is to supply the country with a workforce who has a strong foundation in engineering and engineering concepts

    • This school was established in 1960 on a 9-acre site at Jalan Tambun, Ipoh, now known as Jalan Raja Dihilir
    • The idea to set up this school came from Allahyarham Tan Sri Gazali, the Perak Menteri Besar at that time
    • Sekolah Raja Perempuan Ta'ayah is a former Sekolah Agama Menengah Perak, Jalan Kampung Simee, a Political Detention Camp.
